Argentinian mayor to visit Covington

The mayor of Cordoba, Argentina is coming to city hall to visit with Covington Mayor Kim Carter and former Mayor Sam Ramsey to learn more about the community and the county at large.

Ramsey said Mayor Daniel Giacomino asked local resident Thomas Roberts to help him meet with some American mayors. Roberts is the CEO and president of Kleensoil and is working with Giacomino to construct a gasification plant that will help convert waste materials to electricity. Roberts is also a song leader at the annual Salem Campground celebration, which is how Ramsey knows him.

In addition, Giacomino will also meet with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and will visit several local gasification plants, including those in Toombs and Lamar counties and the City of Dalton.

Cordoba is the second largest city in Argentina with a population of around 1.5 million. Cordoba’s Secretary of Environment Fernando Camara will also accompany Giacomino.
