Covington invites public to attend Master Plan meeting
Covington

COVINGTON, Ga. — The city of Covington is seeking public input regarding phase two of the Covington Downtown Master Plan at its Public Kickoff Meeting on June 24. The meeting will take place at Legion Field from 5-8 p.m. and allows residents to share ideas and opinions on how the future of Covington’s downtown should be planned and executed.

According to the city’s Facebook page, phase one established the community’s vision for downtown Covington and identified its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.

Phase two is where the city will figure out how to best set its plans into motion. It focuses on four main components: Land use, economic development, transportation, and arts and culture.

“To all our downtown business owners: you’ve poured time, money, and energy into this community,” Councilman Travis Moore said in a Facebook post promoting the meeting. “You have a big dog in the fight—don’t sit this one out. Your input matters.”

At a Covington City Council meeting on Monday night, Planning and Development Director Judy Thagard also urged citizens to attend the meeting to have their voices heard.

“We need your input,” Thagard said. “This is an opportunity for the public to be a part of instead of standing in the background and then not feeling satisfied once the end product is done.”
