Two people were killed Wednesday night after a wreck at the intersection of Ga. Highway 142 and Dixie Road.

Newton County Sheriff's Office Lt. Bill Watterson said the driver of a full-sized Chevrolet truck pulled onto Ga. 142 just after 10 p.m. and was hit by a van on the driver's side.

The drivers of the van and truck were ejected from their vehicles, Watterson said. The truck's female passenger was partially ejected.

Both the driver and the passenger of the truck were pronounced dead on the scene, Watterson said. The victims' names are being withheld by authorities pending notification of their families.

 The driver of the van was life flighted to an Atlanta hospital where he is listed in critical condition, Watterson said.

Watterson said the truck's driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic, which caused the wreck.

The accident investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol. Drugs and alcohol were reportedly not part of the crash.
