On June 28, the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion unit in Social Circle will be sponsoring a 5k walk/run and a one mile fun run.

The event will begin with the fun run that will begin at 8 a.m. and the actual 5k will begin at 8:30.

“This is a fundraiser for us, but the sole purpose of it is to support our veterans and their families,” Women’s Auxiliary sponsor Kim Braswell said. “It’s also about letting people know that there is an American Legion unit in Social Circle [Unit 332].”

The participants will meet up at their walk/run at Social Circle High School and will continue and conclude on the paved roads of Social Circle.

This is the first 5k event that is being sponsored by Unit 332 and Braswell said that they are hopeful for a good turnout of participants.

“We’ve only been established for one year so we’re not expecting a really huge turnout,” Braswell said. “Honestly we’re hoping to have at least 50 participants.”

Braswell said that there is also no registration deadline for those who would like to participate in the events. She said that if participants show up the day of the event and would like to register to run they still will be able to do so.
