The Redskin grapplers continued on their early-season raid last weekend, as Social Circle earned another victory at the Morgan County Christmas Classic hosted by Morgan County High School in Madison.
The Redskins finished first overall out of 11 teams, earning 292.5 points, besting Commerce (266.5)
and Banks County (260.5), which finished second and third, respectively.
The Redskins had 15 wrestlers place at the event, including four tournament champions.
Social Circle coach Randy Prater said the tournament helped lend experience to some of the younger wrestlers in the Redskins’ program.
“Whenever you face teams such as Commerce, Morgan County, Banks and Oconee, you need to bring your ‘A’ game,” Prater said.
“These are very strong teams who are used to winning. We were without some starters because of injury or sickness this tournament, so this team with the exception of three seniors who wrestled is next year’s team.”
Four Social Circle wrestlers captured titles in their weight divisions, including Trey Paschal (113), David Engstrom (145), Aaron Forrester (152) and Jeremy Tyson (170).
Runner-up finishers included Mitchell Clegg (126), Travis Tyson (132), Cade Lackey (138), Justin Givens (160) and Eric Wilson (285).
Jimmy Haynes (195) placed third overall for the Redskins, while Josh Craig (106), Stevie Howard (120), and Luke Hamby (220) finished fourth. Cameron Paschal (138) and Tevin Burke finished fifth and sixth in their weight classes, respectively.
The Morgan County victory is the third for the Redskins this season after taking first overall at the Walton County Duals and Panther Invitational.
The Redskins return to varsity action on Dec. 21 at 9 a.m. at the Granite City Duals in Elbert County, while the junior varsity program participates that same day in the East Metro in Jackson City.
Social Circle will wrap up holiday action on Dec. 28 at the Rockdale Duals.
