ROME, Ga. — Peachtree Academy’s boys and girls tennis teams traveled to the Rome Tennis Center in Rome for the GAPPS individual and team tennis state championships.  The individual tournament took place Monday, May 2 and the team event on Tuesday, May 3.

It was in the team tournament that the Panthers made the most noise. The boys team finished second in a close 3-2 loss to Kings Academy while the girls finished fourth.

Peachtree Academy fared well in the individual tournament with the following finishes:

Lydia Clark finished third in the girls singles. In the girls doubles, Josie and Gwyn Morgan finished second.

The boys team had a few noteworthy performances.

Wesley Morgan finished third in the boys singles. David McClellan finished second by a narrow margin of defeat (4-6, 6-7 and 6-8) in the championship match that lasted three hours.

“The kids fought hard these last couple of days,” athletic director Ken Van Ness said. “Our team has worked hard all season and that hard work paid off with a successful run for a state title.”
