COVINGTON, Ga. — Rontravious Perry walked onto the stage with a huge smile on his face as he prepared to sign his scholarship to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas on Feb. 2.

As he approached the table to ink the scholarship, Perry said how surreal it was living in the moment.

“For me, it was a dream come true,” Perry said. “I got excited because I knew my day was coming up soon and it came faster than I thought. It’s just a dream come true.”

Perry concluded his senior campaign leading the Newton Rams in total rushing yards in 2021. His performance was awarded with an honorable mention for Region 4-AAAAAAA as well as for the All-Covington News team.

Now that his next step is official, Perry feels nothing but gratitude for his time as a Ram.

Head coach Camiel Grant Jr., received a special mention from the running back, too.

“Coach Grant pushed me mentally and physically,” Perry said. “He helps me stay on top of my academics and he’s helped me as a person.”

Perry continued saying that he “loved Newton” and everything the school and people have done for him.

Admittedly, Perry said his football career at Newton hasn’t been all good. There have been some ups and downs along the way, he said.

However, Perry said now, looking back on the entire journey, he appreciates every obstacle that has tried to stand in his way to play college football.

“If it would have been sweet the whole four years, when I got to go college, I would have been butt hurt,” Perry said. “It is not going to be like that [in college].”

After graduation, Perry is excited to become a Red Raven.

“Coffeyville kept it 100 [on the visit],” Perry said. “I told the coach, ‘I’m coming up here to work.’ He was like, ‘Alright, let’s get to work.’ So, I’m planning to keep working up there.”
