Newton recovered from its first loss in a big way Friday, running away from Jackson, Atlanta on the road.

The Rams jumped out to a 23-2 lead and were able to hold on for a 56-27 victory, three days after falling to Lovejoy 43-38 on Tuesday.

Jalen Glover led the way, tying his season-high with 17 points for the second time this year. Glover had 12 in Newton's explosive first quarter, before the Rams went deep into their bench.

After giving up two points in the first quarter, Newton (5-1, 1-1 Region 2-AAAAAA) allowed eight in the second, outscoring Jackson 7-8 for a 30-10 halftime lead.

Newton continued to pour it on after halftime, leading 50-15 after three quarters.

Taylor Hawkins chipped in 11 points, Rashard Cabane nine and MJ Boykin eight for the Rams.

"It was a great bounce-back win for our team," Newton coach Rick Rasmussen said.

Newton played at previously ranked Cedar Shoals Saturday night, in a game, which finished after press time, and hosts Jackson, Atlanta Friday.
