For his efforts on the gridiron, Newton High sophomore running back Artice Hobbs has been named Rams Athlete of the Week.

Over the past three games, Hobbs has recorded three touchdowns, finding the end zone twice against Valdosta Sept. 20.

The road to his starting position wasn't easy, and Hobbs said he's not taking his starting opportunity for granted.

"Coach has allowed me to work my way up and grow as a player," Hobbs said. "He's been a big help in my development."

Newton coach Terrance Banks said Hobbs has committed himself to the program, especially in developing his stregnth.

"Artice has come so far during my time here," Banks said. "Artice has committed himself to the weight room and it's made a difference. He's shown us that he's tough enough to go out there and play every game and do well for us. Teams have to game plan for him now."

Hobbs said his goal is to help take the Rams to the Georgia Dome.

"I really want to take us to state," he said.
