COVINGTON, Ga. — Eastside volleyball dominated its first home match of 2022 by defeating Rockdale and Newton. The three-team match took place on Aug. 11 in which the Lady Eagles swept each team 2-0.
The sweep was in front of an energetic crowd with many fans and the school’s pep band present.
Numerous Lady Eagles used that energy to earn Eastside’s second and third wins of the young season.
Against Rockdale County, Lauren Hall, Bailey Franklin and Savannah Cluff led the winning effort. Hall recorded three aces, four kills, three assists and one dig. Franklin finished with three aces, six kills, one assists and six digs. Cluff also had six digs while registering two assists.
In the match with Newton, even more players stepped up for Eastside.
Franklin emerged as the leader again with two aces, nine assists and one dig while finishing 80% on serves. Ansley Tilson and Kaliel Kracht also went 100% on serve attempts.
Tilson had five aces and one dig with Kracht having seven aces along with one dig.
Payton Robinson pitched in with the win having three digs. Jersey Patrick and Tiffany Medlock each had two kills, too.
Head coach Maggie Johnston was proud of her team’s overall performance.
“The girls played as a team and got the job done together,” Johnston said. “I am excited about how we can build on our current performance to enhance our level of play.”
All of the contributions helped improve the Lady Eagles record to 3-2 overall. Their next match is on Thursday, Aug. 18 versus Salem High School in a lone contest against the Lady Seminoles.
Newton drops to 0-2 overall in 2022. On Aug. 23, the Lady Rams will face another inter-county rival in Alcovy at the Lady Tigers.
