Eagles' soccer hold on to fourth place in region

A quick goal by visiting Eagles Landing, didn’t deny the Eastside boys’ soccer team a 2-1 victory at Sharp Stadium Tuesday night.

The visitors scored within the opening 30 seconds, but Eastside (5-7, 5-3 4-AAAA) was able to remain in the fourth, and final playoff spot, in the region with three games remaining.

The Eagles will host Mt. Zion Thursday with a scheduled kickoff of 8 p.m. Mt. Zion is currently just behind Eastside in the region with a 4-3 league record.

In just his first season as head coach, Jabari Bennett has brought a region championship back to EastsideOn Friday, the Eagles’ boys soccer team took down North Oconee 1-0 for the program’s first region title since the 2001 season.It was truly an emotional moment for Bennett and the Eagles’ faithful after the final seconds ticked off the clock. Following a celebration that featured a gatorade bath and the raising of Eastside’s new ‘Region 8-AAAA Champion’ banner, Bennett shared how special the moment was for him and the team.
