WALESKA, Ga. — The Reinhardt University Eagles hosted the Truett McConnell Bears in a Saturday afternoon women's soccer match in Waleska that had a local flare.

Former Eastside Lady Eagle, Morgan Green, a junior transfer to Reinhardt from Georgia Military College, faced off against former Alcovy Lady Tiger, Sydney Ziglar, a freshman at Truett McConnell.

The squads came into the match tied for first place in the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference with identical 2-0 records, and the game marked the first time the two standout players had met on the pitch. It would be Truett McConnell coming away with a 1-0 win.

Green started the game on defense and helped Reinhardt keep the Lady Bears in check in the first half. Green would prove a force on the field the entire match. Although the match was locked in a scoreless tie at halftime, once Ziglar was inserted into Truett's offensive attack as a substitute, she provided an immediate spark.

Green started the second half as an attacking midfielder and helped create better scoringopportunities for Reinhardt (4-3, 2-1 AAC). Ziglar came on for about 20 minutes in the second half as she did in the first half.

In the end it was Ziglar who provided a beautiful 30-yard through-ball on the Lady Bears game winning goal by Lydia Williams with 22:40 left in the match. It was her first collegiate assist.

With the 1-0 win Truett McConnell (5-1, 3-0 AAC) took sole possession of first place in the AAC.

Former Newton Ram standout Jakai Newton will officially be searching for a new home.

Newton formally declared his intent to transfer from Indiana University on March 24 after entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Newton has struggled with injuries throughout his basketball career, which has kept him off the floor.

The 2023 Newton Ram graduate suffered a knee injury during his senior year of high school. The same injury cost him his first season at Indiana.

After receiving a medical redshirt from the NCAA, Newton would only play four games in the 2024-25 season due to numerous lower body injuries. In those four appearances, he averaged 1.5 PPG and 0.8 RPG at 4.5 MPG.

However, when on the court, Newton was efficient. In just his sophomore season at Newton High School, Newton shot 34 percent from three-point range and was an efficient contributor to several Newton teams alongside players like Stephon Castle, Jabez Jenkins and Marcus Whitlock, among others.
