The Newton/Rockdale County Senior All-Star game will be hosted by Newton High Thursday night beginning at 5 p.m.

Newton County and Rockdale County's finest senior basketball players will compete in the Senior All-Star Basketball Game at Newton High School Saturday.

The event will feature a girls' and boys' 3-point shooting competition beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a slam dunk competition at 5:30 p.m.

Following the slam dunk competition, the Newton County and Rockdale County senior girl all-stars will compete at 6 p.m., with the boys' competition to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Newton coaches Tiffani Johnson and Rick Rasmussen will lead their respective girls' and boys' programs for Newton County, while Salem coach Rochone Dilligard and Heritage coach Vernon Denmark will led the Rockdale girls' and boys' all-stars.

Rasmussen said he is excited about having the two counties' best senior athletes compete on the court.

"This is a really fun event to participate in and an honor to coach," Rasmussen said. "The coaches earn the right to coach the teams by winning their respective county championships by virtue of overall record vs the other two county schools and head-to-head records."

Between the six schools this season, Rockdale County schools came out ahead 7-5 in head-to-head competition against their Newton County rivals.
