Wheeler Park dedication
IMG 8307
Recreation champion: Wheeler Park, off of Parker Road, was dedicated to former Commissioner Norman Wheeler in a ceremony on May 17. Wheeler thanked the hard working employees of the Parks and Recreation division and thanked former Recreation Department Head Linda Evans. Parks and Recreation and Senior Services Director Jackie Lunsford described Wheeler as "a true champion for recreation in Rockdale County for over 45 years." Wheeler served as Conyers city councilman from 1979 to 1986, the Post II Commissioner from 1987 to 1997, and Commission Chairman from 1998 to 2004. He was also the past president of the Jaycees, a member of the Yaarab Temple, and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist. "When we purchased this property, it was controversial. But I think you'll find it was a wise investment."
