UPDATE: Search perimeter called off for Waffle House armed robber

UPDATE: The search perimeter for the armed robbery suspect has been called off; officers are still on the hunt for the suspect, who struck the Waffle House on West Avenue.

Shortly after 6 a.m., a male wearing a white plastic "Scream" mask and black shirt entered the restaurant and fired a shot into the ceiling. A few customers and employees were in the restaurant at the time but no one was reportedly injured. The suspect took cash from the cash register and then left on foot, reportedly towards Hardin Street.

Conyers Police Department officers and Rockdale Sheriff's Office deputies set up a search perimeter using K-9 units.

A lockdown was instituted at nearby Pine Street Elementary and Open Campus while the perimeter was ongoing.

(8:34 a.m.) Conyers Police are searching the area for a single suspect who robbed the West Avenue Waffle House early Thursday and escaped on foot.

According to a CPD spokesperson, a masked man entered the Waffle House shortly before 7am with a handgun for an armed robbery. He reportedly fled on foot. Police have set up a search perimeter in the area surrounding the West Avenue Waffle House.
