There were two fatality automobile wrecks this week in Newton County on Ga. Highway 36.

A Wednesday wreck on Ga. Highway 36 around 6:25 p.m. killed Christopher Dylan Williams, 18, of Jackson, who was driving a Nissan Altima, while a Tuesday wreck on Ga. 36 near Parker Road killed Roy Huffman, 49, of Jackson, who was driving a pickup truck.

Wednesday fatality

A Nissan Altima, being driven by Williams, traveling south on Ga. 36, just south of Henderson Mill Road, crossed the center line around 6:25 p.m. and the front end of the car struck the rear driver's side of a northbound Mazda 5 SUV, according to James Moore, public information officer with Georgia State Patrol.

The impact of the two vehicles caused the Mazda 5 to overturn and come to a rest in the southbound lane. After the impact, the Nissan Altima continued south in the northbound lane, striking a Dodge Ram head-on in the northbound lane.

The Nissan driver, Williams, was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the Mazda, Nicole Brooks, 32, of Locust Grove was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the three in the Dodge were uninjured, Moore said.

No charges were filed, and no alcohol or drug use was suspected.

The accident left 36 shut down for approximately two hours, Moore said.

Tuesday fatality

Less than 24 hours earlier, at around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, a pickup truck being driven by Huffman was traveling north on Ga. 36 near Parker Road when it crossed the center line and struck a tractor trailer in the left side.

Moore said the pickup truck driver, Huffman, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The tractor trailer traveled down an embankment and overturned, landing on its right side, trapping the driver, who was uninjured. Newton County Fire officials broke through the tractor trailer's front window and pulled out the driver.

Moore said the highway was closed for several hours.

Thursday fatality in Walton Co.

A single-vehicle wreck in Walton County Thursday also left one person dead, 52-year-old William Carlton Jones of Auburn.

A Ford Windstar Van was negotiating a right curve while traveling west on State Route 10 near Cedar Creek Road when it traveled off the south shoulder.

The front end of the van struck a large tree causing the vehicle to overturn; the van came to a final rest on its roof.

The driver, Jones, was unrestrained and was declared deceased on scene. No alcohol or drug use is suspected.
