IN BRIEF: Conyers city council approved rezoning and a special use permit at the Wednesday night meeting to allow a tire store on Ga. Highway 138 next to Wendy's.
The permit for the SF Discount Tire already required building sidewalks and four feet of landscaping space since the acre-sized lot which is located in an overlay district which has been the focus of land planning and development efforts by the city. The city council added a requirement for split board fences with brick pillars. Currently, a former restaurant building sits on the lot but will reportedly be torn down. Several other automotive parts stores are located on Ga. Highway 138 nearby.
In other city council business:
The council approved a resolution supporting a 75 cent charge on the sales of prepaid wireless phones. The fee is collected by the state, and the city would be entitled to 0.00159 percent of the total collected by the state, or 0.11 cents.
