Nonprofits in Rockdale and surrounding counties can gain valuable capacity-building resources in the third in a series of workshops being held at the Rockdale Career Academy on March 12.

The workshops are aimed at sharing with nonprofit agencies information they need to sustain their organizations so they can continue to enhance the lives of Rockdale residents. Teaming up to offer this opportunity are the Hospital Authority of Rockdale County, the Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families, Rockdale County Government, Rockdale County School System, United Way in Rockdale and Congressman Hank Johnson (GA – 4th District).

The series, which began in September 2012, continues at 8 a.m. on March 12 with a workshop focused on resource development. Topics to be covered include the following:

Delivering “The Ask” - The number one reason people give is because they are asked; but, they don’t give to everyone who asks. Learn the art of successful solicitations so that your request resonates with donor prospects.

Cracking the Corporate Code  - Attracting corporate sponsorships to help fund events and programs for your nonprofit may be easier than you think. More and more, consumers are expecting the companies they buy from to give back to their communities, and businesses are responding. Learn how to approach a corporate sponsor, how to create corporate sponsorship packages and how to solicit for in-kind services or products

Attracting Individual Donors - For many nonprofits, individuals are an under-tapped resource for donations. Individual donors can help diversify a nonprofit’s funding picture and improve sustainability. Get ideas on ways you can raise donations from individuals. This session will cover major donor campaigns, as well as smaller donor fundraising approaches.

Finding Funders – Finding information about grant makers and grant opportunities can be a time-consuming a frustrating process. Learn how to develop an organized, focused approach to identify and evaluate potential funding sources and how to make strategic decisions on which funding opportunities to pursue

With just two sessions left in the series, nonprofits are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen their organizational capacity. The final workshop in the series is scheduled for June 11, 2013 and will include a grantmakers panel discussion along with small break-out workshops.

All Summit sessions are held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Drive, Conyers. The cost is $30 per session. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and educational materials. Walk-up registration will be permitted, but participants are encouraged to register in advance to secure a lunch reservation.
