(AP) Authorities say a young girl was rescued after her arm became caught in a pipe inside a Doraville swimming pool.

Gwinnett fire officials say rescuers arrived at the pool Tuesday night as family members were holding the 8-year-old up, and crews worked to keep her above the water line.

Rescue crews used jackhammers and other heavy equipment to rescue the girl from the pipe, which was described as a vacuum line in the pool.

Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Eric Eberly said she was taken to Children's Hospital-Atlanta to have the piece of PVC pipe — which had caused her to become trapped — removed from her arm.
