In-person early voting for the May 20 primaries started Monday with a steady turnout of about 161 voters, or less than a half of one percent of registered active voters in the county.

Out of those, 75 voters (46 percent) cast their ballots in the Republican primary, 86 voters (53 percent) cast their ballots in the Democratic primary, and no voters participated in the nonpartisan election.

Absentee ballots by mail totaled 137 on the first day of early in person voting. Of those, 56 were Republican primary ballots and 81 were Democratic primary ballots. None were nonpartisan election only ballots.

In Georgia, any registered voter can participate in either primary or can choose to vote only in the nonpartisan elections for May 20.

In-person early voting takes place at 1400 Parker Road and runs until May 16. The regular hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and extended hours will be held Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., and May 14-16, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Absentee voting by mail started April 5 and also runs until May 16.
