Covington woman faces DUI charge after crash and medical airlift

(Conyers, GA) - A Covington woman was flown to a hospital after a single-vehicle crash where she ran into a power pole Saturday on Ebenezer Road in Rockdale County.

Michelle Renee Santos, 48, was traveling north on Ebenezer Road around 9:20 p.m. when her vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a culvert, according to Georgia State Patrol.

The vehicle crashed into a mailbox and then struck a power pole, rolling onto the driver's side. The crash reportedly took out the power pole.

Santos was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. Johnson Park was used as the landing site for the medical helicopter.

She was charged Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Posession of an Open Container (of alcohol) in the Vehicle Passenger Area.
