Deputies are on the search for the driver of a gold-colored Jeep Cherokee that struck and killed a Conyers pedestrian Thursday evening in a hit-and-run crash.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Robert Michael Rojas, 41, was walking on the shoulder of Stanton Road near the intersection with Goode Road with a teenaged family member. Witnesses said a gold-colored vehcile ran off the road and hit Rojas, according to Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Lt. Myra Pearrell.

"The vehicle then fled the scene without stopping," said Pearrell, in a relased statement. The teenager was not injured in the crash.

Rojas was life-flighted to an Atlanta hospital where he was declared dead.

RCSO investigators identified the car by vehicle parts left at the scene as a 1993 to 1998 Jeep Cherokee and are canvassing nearby neighborhoods and shops.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office at 770-278-8000.
