Victory isn't defined by wins or losses. It is defined by effort. If you can truthfully say, ‘I did the best I could, I gave everything I had,' then you're a winner."
- Wolfgang Schadler

The Alcovy girl's basketball team had a season to remember. They scrapped and fought all the way to the state Final Four before bowing out. In doing so and with every win they built character and they represented our community as true champions.

Alcovy coach Kidada Holtzclaw should be proud as her leadership inspired her team. The Lady Tigers went further than any other basketball team in school history. The girls played hard and left everything on the court.

We should all be proud. As we read our own sports story of their final game it read like the Alcovy girls were defeated. The record books will say they came up short - that the semifinals are as far as they went and a different team was crowned 2012 Class AAAA state champion. However, they will go down in our record book as a championship team. And after all there is always next year.
