You may have noticed that wreaths and other holiday decorations already adorn our quaint downtown district, but something’s missing. The bright lights that are distinctive of Christmas haven’t been shining in the night yet.
Well, that will change this Thursday evening when the Arts Association and Main Street Covington hold their annual lighting of the courthouse. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., and will feature the Oxford Singing Children and the Newton County Community Band. Santa Claus will also visit Covington for the ceremony, and he’s letting the Newton County 4-H team mush him into town (his reindeer are getting rested up for their big night).
We invite everyone to come out for this festive event. The Lighting of the Courthouse is a delightfully festive event every year, and the whole community comes together to make the celebration magical.
While we aren’t as exciting as Mr. Claus, The Covington News will be on hand giving out hot chocolate and cookies to anyone who stops by. Look for us across from Scoops.
