Letter to the editor:

The Newton Historical Committee on Black Heritage Preservation held their first Juneteenth Parade and Celebration on Saturday morning, June 16, in Covington. We would like to thank the City of Covington for its support.

Thank you to the police/firedepartment, the city council, Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes, NAACP, Commissioner J.C. Henderson, Newton County Sheriff (Champs), the churches and all that participated.

Special love and many thanks, to our Grand Marshal, Mrs. Lottie B. Johnson, our Juneteenth Queen Mrs. Emma Allen who is 101 years old, Sims Chapel Baptist church, the Nolley brothers, who is their 90s and were our fathers of the year and many others.
