Dear Editor: I would like to thank the citizens of Newton County, District 1 who attended my "School Board on Your Corner" Public Forum at Alcovy High School on Thursday, July 28 at 7 p.m.

Students, parents, teachers, PTO leaders, school administrators, business owners, seniors and others joined me in a healthy discussion of topics including the following: the Vision for Public Education in Georgia, Next Generation Learning Communities, test data, Newton College and Career Academy, Ombudsman, school discipline, in-school suspension, new high school schedules, tiered bus schedules, legislative updates, adequate yearly progress, and No Child Left Behind.

I am proud to serve District 1 on the Newton County Board of Education and am optimistic about the future of our system. I would like to thank the administrative team of Alcovy High School for allowing me to use their facility. I encourage citizens who were unable to attend to join me when future forums are announced.
