Dear Sirs: Thanks to you we’ve heard from (First Baptist) Pastor Jason Dees and (First Presbyterian) Pastor Billy Wade on whether Jesus could be considered "liberal" or "conservative."

Here are my thoughts.

No doubt Jesus was the original liberal.

Before the ages of time (Titus 1:1) God’s Holy Son Jesus was elected (1 Peter 2:4) to be the necessary and sufficient sacrifice to make provision for liberation from the bondage of sin, Satan and the carnal nature for every helpless, sinning enemy of God who will turn to him in faith.

In today’s Machiavellian political morass, "liberal" is often misapplied to those who most consistently advocate the growth of authoritarian government at the expense of individual liberty. However, God’s eternal purpose in Christ Jesus, including the glorious liberty of the children of God (Romans 8:21), will not be thwarted by those who are not liberals or anyone else. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible free gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).
