Robert T. (Bob) King, 84, lifelong resident of Newton County, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Rockdale Medical Center. King retired from AT&T Corp. in 1986, after 30 years of service. He was very active in the Bethany Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school for 37 years, and an elder for 47 years. He was elected Elder Emeritus in 2004, and has served as Sunday school Superintendent for 10 years and was very active in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, where he served on most every ministry team, chaired Council for five years, and was elected Moderator of the Presbytery for one term. King was elected and served on the Newton County School Board for one term. He served three years in the U. S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, in 2008, Idabelle Blanton King. Robert King is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Donald Smith of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Vickie King of Alapaha; grandchildren, Jessica and Chandler Salmon, Katie and Cory Seymour, Turner King and Madison King; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Peyton and Corbin.

Funeral services for Robert King will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1002 Bethany Rd., Covington, Ga. The family will receive relatives and friends at Wheeler Funeral Home on Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dr. Sam Rutland and Rev. Al Myers will officiate.
