Rev. Franklin D. Kitchens, 80, of Conyers, went to be with the Lord, June 9, 2014. Rev. Kitchens pastored Harmony Baptist Church in Covington and West End Baptist Church in Social Circle. In addition, he also served as an interim pastor for Salem Baptist Church, in Conyers and Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Oxford. He was a member of Newton Baptist Church, and loved his church families as much as his own family. He enjoyed wood crafts, cooking, gardening and Southern gospel singings. Kitchens was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Artis and Mary Lou (Johnson) Kitchens.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Day) Kitchens of Conyers; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Bonnie Kitchens of Social Circle, Douglas and Kathy Kitchens, Mickey and Vickie Kitchens, all of Conyers; grandchildren, Jeremy and Cindy Kitchens, Adrienne Kitchens, Clint and Tracey Kitchens, Emily and Austin Mitchell; sisters, Louise Smith of Conyers, Ruth Gleaton of Covington; sister-in-law, Cornelia Day Kitchens of Oxford; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Kitchens will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Newton Baptist Church, 720 Jack Neely Road, in Covington, with Pastor Tony Howeth, Rev. Doug Parham and Dr. R. Hudson Moody officiating, and interment following in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, in Conyers. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday, June 11, from 6 – 8 p.m.
