Joseph Tom “J.T.” Bohannon, 84, of Covington, passed away October 30, 2016. A Newton County native and a lifetime member of High Point Baptist Church, Bohannon loved plants and gardening. He had a beautifully landscaped yard and made sure his plants were being cared for even if he was unable to do it himself. He enjoyed spending time outside, visiting flea markets and yard sales and shopping at Ramsey’s Produce Stand when his home-grown tomatoes were unavailable. Bohannon loved classic cars, was an avid Coca-Cola collector and enjoyed his Beech-Nut chewing tobacco. He never met a stranger and had a friendly word for everyone he met. Bohannon cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - especially when they were babies. Preceding him in death were his parents, Tom and Ethel (Kitchens) Bohannon; son-in-law, Jody Lynch; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Sarah Bohannon of Covington; daughters and son-in-law, Pam and David Cothran, Denise Lynch; grandchildren, Rick and Marsha Smith, Robin and Chad Gilbert, Matthew Edge, Mark and Ciara Edge, Jodi and Nathan Morgan; step-grandchildren, Cory, Dave, Holly; 14 great-grandchildren; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service for Bohannon will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington. Interment will follow in High Point Baptist Cemetery, 12025 GA Highway 36, Covington.
