James “Sam” Allgood, Sr., 71, of Sparta. passed away June 23, 2016. An Oxford native, Allgood and his wife, Frances moved to Sparta in 2006. He retired from Ginn Motor Company after 20 years of service. A true car lover, he was especially fond of muscle cars. Mr. Allgood was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Sr., and Roberta (Cook) Allgood.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Frances Allgood; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Troy Davis, April and Jimmy Sabo; son and daughter-in-law, Sam, Jr., and Candace Allgood; twelve grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Voncile and George Martin; brother and sister-in-law, Wiley, Jr., and Norma Allgood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Allgood will be held Sunday, June 26, 2016, 3 p.m., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road in Covington, with Dr. Alan Posey officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, prior to the service from noon–2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Serenity Hospice, 510 Bellevue Ave, Dublin, GA 31021, or Island Creek Baptist Church, Island Creek Church Road, Sparta, GA 31087.
