Douglas H. Digby of Covington, GA died Sunday July 10, 2011 at Newton Medical Center.  He was born on December 29, 1927 in Covington, GA to Hampton Paul and Cleo Johnston Digby.

 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed tending his cattle, watching western movies, sitting on the porch with his dog watching the deer in his yard and to travel. He was Chief of Police for the city of Covington from 1972 to 1977 and was a Deputy Sheriff for Newton County for 17 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 5290 and the American Legion  Post 0077 in Conyers GA and the Police Officers Association of Georgia.

 

Mr. Digby is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Winona Digby, daughter and son-in- law Dianne and Malcolm Clark of Dacula GA, sons and daughters-in-law Paul and Lori Digby of Bainbridge GA, Wayne and Deedy Digby of Covington GA, grandchildren Daniel and wife Ashley Digby, Michelle and husband Pauncho Hufstetler, Bryan Digby, great grandson Van Digby, sister Shirley Chandler, several nieces and nephews and his beloved and faithful dog Unico.

 

 He is preceded in death by his mother and father Hampton and Cleo Digby, brothers Glen and Joe Digby and sister Mary Smith.

 

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on July 14, 2011 at the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Partlow officiating.  Interment will be at Tabernacle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM.
