ATLANTA (AP) — A winter storm expected to settle into the Southeast Tuesday has already prompted the cancellation of thousands of flights throughout the region.

Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton says more than 840 flights with Atlanta connections have been canceled Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. Talton says that 1,850 flights have been canceled system-wide. Delta officials say passengers traveling through Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, the Carolinas and Texas may make free one-time changes to their tickets.

Southwest Airlines spokesman Brad Hawkins says about 80 flights departing from Atlanta have already been canceled for Tuesday.

Hawkins says the number represents about half of the airline's flights departing Atlanta, and impacted passengers have already been notified. Hawkins says the airline has canceled about 360 scheduled departures system-wide on Tuesday.
