CEDARTOWN (AP) - Polk County firefighters say two people are dead after an explosion and fire south of Cedartown.

Firefighter Alan Schuman says the explosion took place early Monday in a workshop and garage behind a house.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/osOuvN ) Schuman says that when firefighters arrived, the building was engulfed in flames. He says about 200 volunteer firefighters hosed it down and then discovered there were two bodies inside.

Schuman says the victims were 33 and 18 years old and tried to get help before they died. Their names have not been released.

Schuman says the explosion was so massive that it left a debris field 100 feet in every direction.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
