ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say that a U.S. Army soldier has died after he and another man were shot during an apparent robbery while walking on an Atlanta bike trail.

Twenty one-year-old Xavier Arnold died at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot Thursday night in the Kirkwood neighborhood of northeast Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Channel 2 Action News report that Arnold was shot in the head. A second male victim was shot in the leg.

Police say the men were walking along with the bike trail with Arnold's girlfriend when two men confronted them and tried to pick a fight.

Police are still searching for the suspects after an unsuccessful air and ground hunt.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive.
