The unemployment rate for the state of Georgia has reached 10.1 percent, the highest the rate has been since the Great Depression.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond confirmed this number at the Town Hall meeting at the city of Social Circle on Tuesday night. His office will be officially releasing the new information tomorrow.

Unemployment rates for individual counties will be available from the Department of Labor next week. The Covington News will have further updates on this story as information comes forward.
