LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A memorial service will take place Nov. 17 for the late Tom Hice, father of Rep. Jody Hice.

Hice died Oct. 29 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. He was 87.

He was born Thomas Searcey Hice in 1932 and grew up in Cherry Log, Georgia. Hice was a graduate of Gilmer County High School and Georgia State University.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1950 and retired in 1961 as a master sergeant.

Survivors include two sons, two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at his home church, Victory Baptist in Loganville. The memorial service will begin at the church an hour later.

Jody Hice, a former pastor in Walton County, was elected to Congress in 2014. He and his wife, Dee Dee, now live in Greensboro.
