Georgia Piedmont Technical College recently announced the appointment of Dr. Mariam Dittmann as Vice President of Academic Affairs at the college.

"Dr. Dittmann is a renowned educator and we are confident that she will bring innovative thinking in the areas of academic leadership and student success," said Dr. Jabari Simama, GPTC's president.

Dittmann was selected from a field of several qualified candidates. She began her new duties on Nov. 26. Prior to joining Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Dittmann served for two years as the Dean of Curriculum and Special Projects for Savannah Technical College.
There, she led the institution's efforts in institutional effectiveness and accreditations. Dr. Dittmann previously served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bainbridge College in southwest Georgia from 2008 to 2010. She began her career in higher education at Georgia Perimeter College where she taught physics and astronomy from 1991 to 2008. In addition, she joined GPC's administrative team in 1998 as the chair of Sciences for the Lawrenceville Campus and then became the Interim Dean of Sciences in 2006.

Dr. Dittmann holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Furman University. She also holds a Master of Science and Ph.D., both in physics, from the University of Georgia.

"I am excited to join with the dedicated faculty and staff of Georgia Piedmont Technical College as we continue to work together to help our students achieve their goals and realize their dreams," said Dittmann who replaces Dr. Tanya Gorman who retired Nov. 30 from GPTC after nine years as vice president of academic affairs.
