The Learning Center and Montessori School of Covington are partnering to offer Newton County parents the chance to spend a couple of hours of quality time with their children ages 3 to 12 at an event that’s all about the season we’ve been waiting for — spring!
The event is scheduled for March 6 and parents can choose from two sessions from — 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Activities include making crafts with natural and recyclable materials, learning about ways to protect our environment, participating in a Reader’s Theater, learning about compost, and decorating and planting a flower pot.
Ticket prices for the event are (in advance) $7 first child, $5 second child, $3 third child or at the door $10 first child, $7 second child, $3 third child. Parents can purchase tickets online at www.leapintobooks.org.
Research shows that children learn more when adults interact with them during teachable moments. Quality Time events are designed to encourage parents to enjoy engaging in simple learning activities with their children in a prepared setting. The Learning Center’s programs and Montessori School of Covington’s curriculum promote family support of their children’s learning as preparation for success in school.
Montessori School of Covington will follow up this event with a summer day camp beginning in June 7, available to children ages 3 to 12. More information about summer day camp can be found at www.montessori-covington.org.
The Learning Center’s mission is to strengthen Newton County’s overall literacy rate by addressing the early learning needs of children, ages 0-5, with a vision that all Newton County children will enter school ready to read.
