The Newton County School System will see a nearly $4 million increase in their anticipated end of fund balance, due to collecting more in property taxes and delinquent taxes than originally expected.

The school system originally anticipated receiving $14,096,531 as their ending fund balance, according to deputy superintendent for operations Dennis Carpenter. The amount is now more than $18,000,000.

"[That is] due primarily to our collecting more than the 95 percent we budgeted for property taxes and the fact that the county collected more than $1.8 million in delinquent taxes," he said.
