Alcovy High School student Kevin Lipsey Jr. is a finalist in "The Gift," an American Idol-style singing competition showcasing Atlanta's inspirational singers ages 9 -15.

Kevin was named a finalist after the second audition on March 19. He is one of 15 finalists who will compete on April 3 in the Rialto Center for the Arts for a $2,500 college scholarship and a chance to record a demo CD and make appearances on radio stations.

The competition, sponsored by the Greater Atlanta McDonald's Operators Association, has attracted 1,500 performers since its founding in 2005.

The competition is designed to expose youth to career opportunities in music, performing arts, marketing and related fields through education, technical tools and life skills assistance.
