Two people were stabbed, including one critically, during a fight in Covington Sunday.
According to a Covington Police Department (CPD) report, around 4:30 p.m. March 12, CPD Officer Matt Cooper responded to Piedmont Newton Hospital on a report of two male stabbing victims in the Emergency Room (ER). At the ER, Cooper met with the nurses for David Dalton Millwood and Jacob James. The nurses reportedly told him that both men had multiple stab wounds.
James reportedly told Cooper that he, Millwood and another male, Mitchell Hollis, along with a juvenile female had driven to 8184 Laurel Drive in Covington. When they arrived at the house, Millwood reportedly attempted to fight another male, John Reynolds. According to the report, James told police that Millwood started fighting with Reynolds and when he (James) attempted to break it up, Reynolds took out a knife and started to stab both of them.
According to the report, Millwood, James, Hollis and the juvenile female returned to their vehicle and drove to the hospital. Another CPD officer interviewed Hollis, and the juvenile female in the ER waiting room. They reportedly told the same story.
According to the report, medical staff advised CPD that Millwood was in critical condition and that he would be transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta by Airlife air ambulance. Mitchell was reportedly taken to CPD headquarters for further questioning by detectives.
A member of the nursing staff reportedly collected a blue, razor style pocket knife from Millwod’s pocket and turned it over to CPD. CPD placed the knife into evidence for safekeeping. According to the report, the knife was not involved in the altercation, but was inside his pocket during the fight.
The incident is still being investigated by CPD.
