COVINGTON, Ga. – A Tennessee man in is custody in Newton County facing multiple charges in an early morning shooting that wounded a local woman last week.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Terrell Bennett, 44, was charged with burglary in the first degree, cruelty to children and aggravated assault after deputies responded to a report of a person shot on Hidden Branches Way just before 5 a.m. March 20.

The victim reportedly told authorities she was asleep in the bed when a person made entry into her residence and shot her several times.

An NCSO spokesman said the case is currently still under investigation.
