COVINGTON, Ga. - A Newton County teacher is out of jail but remained on leave more than a month after her arrest on drug charges.
Alma Nichole Jones, 33, of McDonough, was arrested May 10 in Henry County. The Livingston Elementary School pre-kindergarten teacher, who worked with children with special needs, was arrested on two counts of trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine; one count of the possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana; and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or the attempt to commit certain felonies.
The Newton County School System placed Jones on administrative leave pending an investigation after learning of her arrest by the Flint Circuit Drug Task Force.
She remained on the faculty listing on the school website Thursday.
Jones posted $80,000 bond and was released from the Henry County Jail on May 21.
The case has been bound over to Superior Court.
