Student arrested after bringing weapon to Newton High

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Newton High School student faces a felony charge after reportedly bringing a weapon to school March 9.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, 18-year-old Leo Johnson Jr. was arrested for having a weapon in a school safety zone after a concerned adult notified a school resource officer. The SRO in turn advised school administration and a search was conducted locating the weapon.

A NCSO spokesperson described the weapon as an electronic control device (hand-held Taser).
