Porterdale child dies from injuries after being hit
Update

PORTERDALE, Ga. - Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis confirmed the child hit by a truck last week in Porterdale died from his injuries.

Payton Mosher, of Porterdale, was 7 years old at the time of the accident, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol.

Mosher was struck at about 5:45 p.m. Feb. 27 by a truck backing from a driveway onto Birch Street.

GSP reported 39-year-old David Clemens, of Monroe, was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram in reverse on Birch Street while Mosher was running from a driveway into the street.

According to the report, Clemens did not see Mosher run behind his truck when contact was made. The left rear tire of the truck struck the child. The truck then continued to travel south and ran over the boy.

Payton was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Troopers said Clemens had just picked up his daughter from her mother’s house on Birch Street.

Porterdale police Chief Jason Cripps called the case an “unfortunate accident.”
