COVINGTON, Ga. – The Covington Police Department (CPD) is looking for the two people responsible for a pair of daring, lunchtime smash and grab thefts from vehicles at a local restaurant Thursday afternoon.

According to a CPD incident report, a little after 12:30 p.m. Aug. 3, a man walked out of the Longhorn Steakhouse at 6112 Pavilion Way in time to see a male crawling out of the back window of his truck with items from the truck in his hands. According to the report, the male jumped into a white pick-up parked between the victim’s truck and another pick-up truck. The vehicle reportedly pulled out at a high rate of speed, striking the rear bumper of the other vehicle before leaving out of the rear parking lot and turning left on Old Atlanta Highway.

According to the report, taken from the victim’s truck was a red and grey bag containing a stainless steel Smith & Wesson .38 cal. revolver, a .380 Smith & Wesson pistol in a black Uncle Mike’s carrying case, three checkbooks from Athens First bank and a checkbook from Bank of North Georgia. The combined value of the weapons is $900.

According to another CPD report, the pick-up truck parked on the other side of the getaway vehicle also had its back window broken out. Taken from that vehicle was a black Taylor Morrison cloth bag containing a black Dell laptop computer with accessories valued at $2,000.

The two suspects are described as black males, one heavyset with short hair and the other a little smaller than the first. Their getaway vehicle is described as a white pick-up truck, tag number PXB5997.
