COVINGTON, Ga. — Nothing was taken when someone broke into a Publix in the middle of the night.

Deputy LaTavia Washington of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said someone entered the store at 13015 Brown Bridge Road at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

“The suspect did make entry into the store; however nothing was taken,” Washington said. “Right now it’s still an ongoing investigation.”

A Publix employee told The Covington News someone tried to use a blowtorch to force entry into a safe.

No arrest had been made as of Tuesday morning, Washington said. She said the Sheriff’s Office was looking for a suspect, but she was not able to offer a physical description.
