COVINGTON, Ga. – School resource officers from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office teamed with firefighters from Newton County Fire Rescue to hold an active shooter in a school training exercise Wednesday at the old Cousins Middle and High School building.

Firefighters teamed with deputies to enter the smoke-filled building and evacuate wounded “students”. The drill included loading a patient into an air ambulance.

Other active shooter training exercises are planned.
