COVINGTON, Ga. – A Covington man told authorities he was punched and robbed Monday afternoon after giving two men a ride.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the victim told a deputy he picked up the pair off of Kirkland Road at around 2 p.m. and they asked him to take them to a road off Kirkland Road.

The victim said when they arrived at the road the individual in the back seat grabbed him around the throat and made him give them the money out of his wallet and his iPhone 7.

The victim told the deputy the person in the front seat punched him in the face. The pair reportedly made the victim disable location services on his phone and then jumped out of the car.

According to the report, a wallet with a picture ID was found in the back seat of the vehicle. A NCSO spokesperson said there are suspects in the case and it is still under investigation.
